Happy Thanksgiving and National Family History Day!

We want to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving.  We are grateful for so very much.  Families coming together (whether related or not) and simply appreciating the abundance of things we all take for granted.

Did you also know that Thanksgiving is also National Family History Day? We did not.

Each year since 2004, the Surgeon General has declared Thanksgiving to be National Family History Day.

Over the holiday or at other times when families gather, the Surgeon General encourages Americans to talk about and write down the health problems that seem to run in the family.

Learning about their family’s health history may help ensure a longer, healthier future together.

Visit HHS.gov for information about the Surgeon General’s Family Health History Initiative, along with their Health Portrait Web Tool at https://familyhistory.hhs.gov/

According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), the conversation about family health history may not always be easy.  Your family members might not be used to talking about their diseases or might not want to talk.

...But just starting the conversation is important.

Remember, you’re asking not just for your own health, but for the health of everyone in your family.

A gentle reminder to be good to yourself and your overall health on Thanksgiving.  We wish all of you a safe holiday! 🦃
